David Dobson
I was born on a winter’s night in December 1947. They say it was one of the worst winters ever with snowdrifts climbing lampposts, and as this was the town of Halifax in west Yorkshire, you can imagine what it was like. As a child I played the cornet in Crossley’ s Carpet Works Band. I joined the R.A.F. for 5 yrs, was posted to Aden, and did detachments to Cyprus and Singapore. On Sundays my parents, forced me to go to the nearby Methodist Church, thankfully this had a positive effect on me, as you will see. In the early 1980,s I moved to the Lakes.
In 1986 I was suddenly moved by God’s presence, calling me to Discipleship. That year I started a lay preaching course, met my wife to be, and attended Carver Church, later having passed the course I started preaching on the URC and Methodist circuits.Julie and I now live on Heron Hill, she became my career after cancer left me with chronic pain. We have a Yorkshire terrier who was a rescue dog.
We now both worship at Heron Hill Free Church, of which we have recently become members. it’s so welcoming, and we like the free non-stuffy style. Now I help prepare family prayers, and Julie reads God’s word.
